Ellie has designed a range of Horse Plaques, to provide mementos or stable name plates for horses and ponies.
They all follow a common theme of a superb piece of timber used as a mount for those special horse shoes (and nails), locks of the horse's mane or tail and suitable descriptive lettering.
Pyrography (burning with a hot wire) is used to add text to specify information such as the horses name, age, owner, winning race, jockey name, other dates etc.
The plaque is then finished with a number of coats of polyurethane varnish to protect it from the elements.

Every plaque is unique and is created in full consultation with the client. This is a complete end-to-end process - with the client input and approval maintained at all times - thus ensuring that the customer gets exactly what they want.

Most of the other items on this page were made to order as a commission. Timber selection, sizes, lettering, style and finish were all agreed in advance with the customer. Photographs of the selected timber will be supplied as necessary.

Racehorse Plaques These have a racehorse plate attached along with the name of the horse and the race that it pertains to, or whatever other description you wish to be put on the plaque. Some have the trainer, owner and/ or jockey on them. The size of the plaque depends on how many plates are to be attached, and it can be made with or without a bark (natural) edge. The plates will have copper nails used to fix them to the plaque. The client can choose a font from a selection and the type/ colour of wood from what is available. Stable Plaque - "Rosie" This is made with a shoe from the horse or pony that it is for. The shoe needs to be supplied otherwise a random shoe will be substituted. The shoe will be held in place with glue and horseshoe nails. The plaque will have the horse/ pony's name beside the shoe or inside it if that is preferred. The size of the plaque will be determined by how you want it to look and how long the horse/ pony's name is. We are always happy to work with the client to create something that is unique and right for them. The client is able choose the font from a selection that is available. The finish will be 4 coats of marine grade polyurethane varnish so that it will endure outside weather. (Ref No: ET15/2020) Guide price: £25 - £60
Memorial Plaque - "Daisy" These Memorial Plaques are made to your personal requirements. They often include a horseshoe and some of the horse's mane or tail. The pyrography is according to the client's specification. The client will have a selection of fonts and timbers to choose from, and the wood can have the natural bark on or off, depending on the wood chosen. The finish will be 3 coats of polyurethane unless the client has another finish that they would prefer. (Ref No: ET22/2022) Guide price: On request, depending on personal requirements
Stable Plaque - "Star" This name plaque is slightly bigger than a coaster, depending on the length of your pony/horse's name. The client can choose from a selection of woods and fonts and the size of the font for the plaque. The finish will be 4 coats of marine polyurethane so that it will endure outside weather. Ref: (ET48/2021) Guide price: £10 - £20 Feed Paddle - "Star" Why not have a personalised feed paddle for your horse? These are approx. 33 cm to 38 cm (13" to 15") long with the name of your horse/ pony pyrographed onto the handle. They are finished in rapeseed oil or left natural, whichever you prefer. House Sign - Size: 12" x 8" x ¾" - This house sign has been made in Oak from Minety, Wiltshire. It has been pyrographed, that is: burnt with a wire to create the letters. It is then coated/ sealed with a minimum of 6 layers of yacht varnish with advanced UV protection. This should give the sign the best chances against the elements. Ref: ET75/14 ("Home Idover Farm") Guide price: £50 - £65 depending on the number of letters and actual size of the sign
House Sign - Size: 13" x 4 ½" x 5/8" - This house sign has been made in Cherry from Potterne, near Devizes, Wiltshire. It has been pyrographed, that is: burnt with a wire to create the letters. It is then coated/ sealed with a minimum of 6 layers of yacht varnish with advanced UV protection. This should give the sign the best chances against the elements. This sign retains the original bark on the top edge. Ref: ET84/14 ("17 Wilson") Guide price: £35 - £55 depending on the number of letters and actual size of the sign

16" x 7" Oval Name Plate made from a waney edge slice of Apple wood. The name on the plate has been pyrographed.  Pyrography is the art of burning with a hot wire.
